Finding the best water treatment system so I could guarantee the health and safety of my family was a priority for me. With all the facts and truths that have surfaced about tap, bottled, and even some ‘filtered’ water, it was crucial that I made sure I bought the best water treatment system. Here’s how a came to my decision.
So in order to produce the purest and healthiest water for consumption, a water treatment system must filter out all the synthetic chemicals, toxins, sediments, and other contaminants. But it also must keep beneficial minerals like calcium, iron, potassium, and magnesium in the water. These are the minerals that are naturally found in water that the human body was build to run on.
Here’s the different kinds of water treatment system products and a short description of each:
*Distillation: filters based on relative boiling point by passing it over a heated coil. This process removes all minerals, and isn’t that effective at removing contaminants and synthetic chemicals because most of them have a boiling point that’s much lower than water. Distillers produce water at a very slow rate, costing about 20-26 cents per gallon.
*Reverse Osmosis: filters based on molecular size by exposing water under pressure to a semi permeable membrane with a fine pore structure. The portion that passes through is stripped of inorganic compounds and trace minerals, but still contains many synthetic chemicals like herbicides and pesticides since these molecules are smaller that water’s molecules. They produce less than 1 gallon per hour, require lots of maintenance, and cost 18-24 cents per gallon.
*Pitchers and Carafe-Style Filters: pitched as low-cost alternatives to tap and bottled water, but are really the least effective and most costly to use. Sure you get the initial pitcher for only $25, but did you know that each filter only purifies 30 gallons of water? Although they are better than tap, they are still the lowest quality filter out of them all, and produces water at about 25 cents a gallon.
*Multi-Stage Filter: these are the most common counter top, under the sink, and point-of-use filters. They filter water through multiple stages- like a carbon block filter, ion exchange filter, and sub micron filter- before it’s ready to be consumed. Out of all the water filters available today, this is the best water treatment system to get that produces the highest quality H20. And believe it or not, they’re the cheapest!
I get pure, filtered, healthy water from any tap and shower in my house for just 9 cents a gallon! This way, not only do I save a boatload of money not having to buy bottled water anymore, I can also be confident that all the water that comes into contact with me and my family is filtered the right way and is safe to drink and use.
